A new redness reduction treatment for Rosacea
This product has been available for some time overseas, and is now available in Australia on prescription. The vasoconstrictor gel, brimonidine tartrate 0.5%, reduces redness within half an hour of application (J Drugs Dermatol. 2013;12(6):650-656). It is applied once daily, and can be used concomitantly with other Rosacea therapies.
Around 1.6 million people in Australia suffer from Rosacea. Facial redness is the most common and sometimes only symptom of Rosacea. The redness may come and go or it may be persistent. Triggers of flares include sun exposure, extreme hot or cold environments, strong wind, spicy food, dairy products, citrus fruits, hot drinks, alcohol, perfumes, intense exercise, stress and anxiety, menopause, and high blood pressure. The redness can be socially embarrassing for many.
Consult with an OGAM doctor to enquire about Roscaea and new treatment options.
